New Banner! What do you think?

Hi!

I'm quite challenged when it comes to creating things like teasers, banners and things like that. But if there's something about me that should be said it's that I'm quite stubborn. I'm not one to give up that easily.

I finally am happy to say that I'm starting to understand how to use GIMP! I'm a newbie, but I know now how to use the brushes and more importantly how to install and use the brushes and scripts. Yeah me! *silly dance*

For info, it only took me a year...

I've been working on my own banner/brand and I came up with something I really like. I'd love to know what you think, so don't forget to comment. ;)

Here it is! Ready?

NOWHERE BUT HERE Synopsis:

An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

How I'm dealing with a difficult novel to edit & revise...

Hi!

So in the spirit of trying to do things right, I'm taking up my blog more seriously. At least, that's the plan. We'll see how long it lasts. ;)

Today I'm going to talk about something random I've witnessed yesterday...

I'm currently working on two books. One is written and my beta reader started reading it and I'm trying to edit/revise/rewrite it. The other one is a work in progress, meaning that I'm still writing the first draft. I already have over 45k words under my belt, almost as many to go. *takes a deep breath*

The thing is, I'm not exactly used to work on two different books at the same time. It's a little difficult to handle, but also exciting after spending weeks, months even, without working on anything.

But you see, the book I'm trying to edit is quite a beast. It's long, it's not as good as I hoped and it's not behaving like I'd like. I'm sure you can guess how it makes me feel. Other than annoyance at myself and a growing panic, I'm also very frustrated.

That's how I discovered that I'm dealing with that frustration by writing a way sexier book than I had anticipated. Yes, the first draft of that other book I'm working on is getting very sexy.

*fans oneself and sighs*

Now, that Adult Contemporary Romance novel is bordering on Erotica and it's quite a surprise. Though, the story, the plot and characterization are the same as I had planned, it's still a surprise to have these sexy scenes turning this book from nice and sexy to sizzling and naughty. ;)

What do you think? Is it that bad?

Title of the book I'm currently writing: We Shouldn't And Yet...
Title of the book I'm currently editing: Six Years (temporary title)

Despite destroying Cassie Taylor twice before, Ethan Holt now wants another chance, but how can she possibly take him back knowing it could all go to hell again? And yet, knowing how much she still loves him, how can she not?

Second chances are hard to come by. Third chances, even more so.

Shakespeare once wrote, "The course of true love never did run smooth." Next to that quote, he should have included a picture of Cassie and Ethan.

Getting ready to format my book months in advance...Why not?

Hi!

You know, I have a few books already published, but none I actually self-published. As of right now, By My Side, Patch Up, Fix Up and 2B Or Not 2B? are all published by an indie-publisher. That means I didn't have to worry about formatting, about the cover (other than asking for a certain cover designer a.k.a Cover It Designs) and while it's been a real relief, I'm ready for another adventure and it's very frightening.

I'm going solo! Meaning, I'm actually going to self-publish at least two Adult Contemporary Romance books this year, both standalone novels.

Believe me, it's very frightening, but I'm also very lucky to have several writer friends in my corner. That's also why it took me so long before I finally decided to take that leap. I didn't know many people who could guide me, I also didn't know anything about the technicalities of self-publishing and as a real coward, I decided to wait and see. Now, I think I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be!

That's where things get funny...

I have the first book I'd like to self-publish with my beta reader. As of today, the prologue and the first chapter are beta read which means that there are lots of things to be done still. Other beta readers will tear my book apart before it's ready to the final editing stage. So, as you can see, it's far from being ready to be formatted.

Yet...

The crazy that I am, meaning that I can't sit still for even a minute when my mind is set on something, I've already started getting things ready for me to format my book. Yes, I know, I'm months early.

I've read countless articles about formatting, took my time in thinking of what I'd like and earlier today, as soon as I reached my daily writing goal on another book, I started working on the chapter headers, etc. And I loved it! I even started playing around and formatted the prologue and first chapter to see if I'm actually ready or if I just think I am. I don't know why, but I had fun and it made me look forward to that moment when my manuscript is going to change into an actual book. :)

Do you want to see a preview of what the chapter headers are going to look like? It's nothing fancy. After all, it's my first time.

Let me know what you think and if you have suggestions, leave a comment!

xx

Working on a standalone. Want to read a tiny snippet?

Hi!

If you're following me, you know that I've been MIA for a few weeks. Unfortunately, day life can be a little demanding and on top of that I developed some kind of writer's block. I'm behind schedule and I have yet to even catch up on all my emails and messages on Facebook. That's how far behind I am. :/

But I'm slowly getting back to my stories and I'm glad to be working again. I seriously missed this. I have to thank several friends for that. Without them I wouldn't have the drive to go back to my writing and editing cave.

So, to apologize for the delay in everything related to my books and my answers if you're waiting for one, I'm going to give you a very short snippet of what I'm currently working on with my first beta reader.

FYI, it's a standalone contemporary romance. As of right now, it's the longest story I have, but I will probably delete some short scenes. If I do, I will post them on my blog and website as bonus. ;)

It's the story of two long lost friends. They used to be neighbors until the guy, freshly out of high school, left for college. The girl, younger than him, never heard of him for six years, until one day he's back in their small town. I'm not going to spoil anything else for now. You have to be patient.

And now for the snippet...

"You don't know me anymore. I'm not the twelve year old girl you left behind, things changed.’’ I tensed up some more, not ready to disclose anything further. We’re strangers now. He’d made sure of that.

He nodded, his eyes taking in my body for the first time. I shivered when I saw him grit his teeth. "I see that, Li…’’ he stopped mid sentence. “Brooklyn.”

Voilà!

As of now, the title is Six Years, but I'm not very fond of it so if inspiration strikes me I'm going to change it.

Keep an eye on the updates for another snippet soon. xx

PS: Change Up will be published soon, don't worry. It'll be out way before this story.

Passion couple

Excerpt

The familiar chatter fills my ears as soon as I step inside, and I grab a juice. As I wait to pay, I absently scan the tables. Wild hair, wilder clothes, outrageous make-up. Your typical college students.

Except the guy sitting alone at a table in a corner. No wild hair or clothes, and yet he snags my gaze, hooks me and reels me in. I study the familiar close-cropped blond hair, the beautiful profile, the powerful shoulders stretching his gray sweater.

Dylan.

My turn comes to pay for my juice, and instead I drop my purse and spill coins everywhere. Laughter ripples around me. Yeah, your typical college student is also easily amused.

Mortified, I glance in Dylan’s direction, but he seems lost in thought. Thank God. I pay and clutch my juice like a shield in front of me as I make my way toward him. After thinking about Sean, Dylan’s presence makes me feel better. Safe. Warm.

So I approach, taking him in. He’s dressed in well-worn jeans and that old sweater he’s had since high school. He needs no expensive suits. With his broad shoulders and trim body, he’s so hot he’d put any male model to shame.

It strikes me how much he’s grown from the boy he was when we dated. Even from the boy he was a year ago, with the purple bangs. It’s like he’s shed all playfulness, all childishness, as if he had to give it up overnight.

Not sure why, but it makes me sad for him.

“Hey,” I say, and sit across from him.

He starts, pushing back from the table, and I frown as I notice the dark bags under his blue eyes, and how thin his handsome face has become. He hasn’t shaved for at least a couple of days, and his jaw is covered in golden stubble.

“Tess,” he whispers, and my breath catches. He never calls me that nowadays. “What do you want?”

“You didn’t show up in biology class,” I say, before I lose my nerve. “And I haven’t talked to you in a while. Is everything okay?”

“Fine,” he mutters.

“You’ve missed many classes already.”

“I never enrolled in that class. Or any class.”

“You never…” My brain stalls. “Then why did you show up on the first day?”

“Because I hoped I could do this,” he snaps, and it’s my turn to flinch. “I’m not enrolled in college. Not anymore.”

“That’s a pity,” I whisper. My chest aches.

He gets up. “Look, I’ve got to go.”

“Yeah.” I nod, finally accepting what Audrey has been telling me all along. “Take care, Dylan.”

His eyes narrow. “You too. What’s this about?”

“This is about me,” I say and unscrew the lid off my juice with shaky hands.

“What do you mean?” His face is pale, the silver ring in his lip glinting dully in the fluorescent lights of the cafeteria.

I force myself to look away. “I mean,” I say softly, “this is goodbye.”

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I hope you had fun last night and that you're not too hungover today. ;)

For once, I don't have resolutions or a list of goals to write down. I just want to be able to write at least three new books this year. I have some exciting stories in mind and if I don't mess up they should be good.

For now, I am trying to catch up on everything I missed and everything that got delayed because of my day life.

What are your resolutions or goals this year?

xx
